It's often said that if you feel as though you have learned everything there is to know, you have already decided to give up on life.
During high school, you are preparing yourself for the next stage in life....adulthood. What you do during those four years will determine how you start your next stage, which is the decision to either go to college or jump right into the workforce.

For students entering college for the first time in the fall 2012, the GMS 2012 Scholarship Application online process is now open. The deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
Who’s Eligible? Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they meet all of the following criteria:

- Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American** or Hispanic American
- Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States
- Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED
- Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited*** college or university (with the exception of students concurrently pursuing a high school diploma) in the fall of 2012 as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student. First-time college enrollees can also be GED recipients.
- Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities
- Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria
- Have completed and submitted all three required forms: the student’s application (Nominee Personal Information Form), an evaluation of the student’s academic record (Nominator Form) and an evaluation of the student’s community service and leadership activities(Recommender Form) by the deadline
KFC Colonel's Scholars

Who's eligible? To be eligible to compete for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Scholarship, an individual must:
·Graduate from high school this academic year (between 12/1/11 and 8/31/12)
·Earn a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.75
·Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public, in-state college or university (start date no later than 9/30/12)
·Be a US citizen or permanent resident
·Demonstrate financial need
Scholars may begin their college career by entering into either a 2-or 4-year accredited in-state college/university, as long as they stay on track to complete a bachelor's degree program.
Who's eligible? To be eligible to compete for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Scholarship, an individual must:
·Graduate from high school this academic year (between 12/1/11 and 8/31/12)
·Earn a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.75

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

Eligibility To be eligible for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must:
- Be a graduating, minority high school senior;
- Plan to attend an accredited and approved four–year institution within the United States;
- Show leadership potential;
- Demonstrate a dedication to community service;
- Present evidence of financial need;
- Be a United States citizen;
- A minimum SAT score of 1,000 combined on the math and critical reading sections or a composite ACT score of 22; and
- Not possess a degree from a 2 or 4–year College when applying for the scholarship.
March 30, 2012, 5pm (ET) - Application Due
April 30, 2012 - Notification of application status via email
May 1 – May 31, 2012 - Second Round, Regional Interviews
June 15, 2012 - Final Selections Announced
The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Application will be available online from October 15, 2011 through March 30, 2012.

- Once you have signed up, search their database for scholarship opportunities.
- Do not think that you cannot be awarded ANY of the scholarships. As long as you see that you are eligible, apply. Doubt is the first step towards failure.
There are a lot of different scholarships that are available if you just apply yourself. Don't worry about not being awarded one of them, because if you don't at least try, you will never know if you will or would have been a recipient. Good luck, stay positive, and never give up!
